Meetings, Meetings, Meetings!

Today was a day of meetings, meetings and more meetings. This morning I got up early and attended the Leadership follow up with the different students from all the Berkeley campuses. It was really cool because we were all at our own campuses and we were all connected via videoconferences. The videos were voice activated and whenever a certain location spoke the screen would pop up to that campus. It was really awesome because I have never seen anything like that. One student said he even felt like he was at a candy store.

In this meeting we prepared for a meeting that will take place on September 5th with the president of the college and different board members to discuss the new Strategic Plan for Berkeley. Some of the issues we have touched on were transportation for evening students and between campuses, meal plan options for dorming students, more computer labs available to students, lower management levels, peer coaching, and having more than one graduating ceremony per year.

This conference was a great experience for many of us. Sometimes it is hard to work with a large group of people because everyone has something to say and sometimes people feel that their opinions are always right. We got lucky that we had a great group that was very willing to compromise and brought amazing ideas to the table. We got some good ideas going and alternatives to certain issues that will give us great choices to pick from.

We really thought that it would be important that we keep doing these conferences to stay on the same page. It seems that Berkeley students really want to connect between the campuses despite the distance. We may each be a small, personal campus but together we make a great, strong team!
