Graduation Around the Corner

Time flies when you are having fun! Even thought I am not doing anything out of the ordinary, enjoying life and meeting new people keep things interesting for you. Graduation is only about 2 month away and I am very excited. The final date for graduation is April 24th, which is a Friday. I already told everyone I know to take the day off and be ready for a celebration!

The other day got a letter in the mail from Berkeley that March 23rd there will be different events going on at the college for Alumni and graduates. There will be the distribution of caps and gowns, taking of graduation pictures as well as the chance to purchase nice frames for our diplomas. They have two times during the day so that people that work in the morning can attend in the evening and at night in case people work evenings. I think I will attend the evening session because I work during the day.

I recently started working a lot in Manhattan. My main office is in Paramus, but we recently opened up an office in Manhattan and its always been my dream to work in Manhattan. Our office is right on 5th and 42nd St which is only about a 10 minute walk from Port Authority. It is right across from the New York library. I can’t wait until the weather gets nicer and I can sit in Bryant park, relax and then go to work.

When I think about it, we as Berkeley students and graduates have the opportunity of a lifetime. We have campuses in NJ and NY, and we can attend both without any extra fees. People all around the world wish they could visit NYC, and we have the opportunity to live, work and study all in the biggest business city in the world. Being from another country I know how other people from other countries feel. When I talk to my friends back in Poland and tell them that I work in the city they are purely amazed by the opportunity but yet we take these things for granted. Now whenever I go into the city instead of complaining on the bus how I hate commuting I choose to that time and think of all the things I am grateful for.

MLK Day

With a new promotion came some excitement and a new car! Last week I went out and decided to buy myself a new car as a pat on the back for a job well done at advancing myself in my career, being a leader to others and being a positive influence to the people around me. I have done a lot of self improvement lately and I can already see the positive effects that it has on me as well as the people around me. I decided to get the car I did because I always wanted a convertible. Having the car will show me to work harder because when you work hard you can achieve the goals that you want to come true.

Speaking of dreams, there is a man that we recently celebrated his birthday. His name was Martin Luther King Junior. Martin Luther King Junior had a dream and he worked very hard to make that dream come true. He wanted everyone to be equal and wanted every person to treat everyone with respect in the United States. Sadly he did not live to see this dream come true but he impacted many lives then as well as today where we are happy to celebrate his birthday because he changed who we are today.

Martin Luther King Junior Day is a day to show support, praise others and help others in need. Berkeley College did just that. Berkeley College student went to a school in Jersey City and helped paint the school in colorful images to raise the spirits of young students. We always loved doing community service but doing community service for students and kids to make them happy is always much more meaningful. Here are some exciting pictures from the event:

History

How does it feel to witness history? WONDERFUL! Not even a month ago most Americans sat at work listening to the radio or watching TV seeing our new president being inaugurated. Why was this so special? It was special because for the first time in the United States history we have elected a black president into the office. United States has come a far way from slavery days to electing its first black president and I could not be more proud to be a United States citizen.

Berkeley College celebrated just like anyone else. The Student Center was filled with chairs and food. Students along with teachers poured in to watch the event live on the NEW plasma TV that the Student Center received. At one point I saw that there were so many people in there that people had to stand because they ran out of chairs. Students were serving pizza, drinks and other refreshments to make everyone feel comfortable. Here are the pictures from the great historical event.

Reading Makes You Stronger

The weather is starting to tease us a little bit giving us 50 degree temperatures and then dropping back down to 30 and then 50’s again and so on. It’s a nice preview of what’s soon to come and gets us all excited about the spring. With spring come great activities at Berkeley and more outdoor fun around the different campuses. I remember when spring was coming we always started planning outdoor activities such as Habitat for Humanity, building playgrounds in Paterson and helping out in a soup kitchen. It was a lot of great fun that brought us together.

This week I bought myself a new car. Since I got a promotion at work, and I am shooting for another one at the end of this month I wanted to get something for myself that will give me a “why” as to why I need to earn money. When your job requires you to motivate yourself to earn money it’s easy to lose yourself in the freedom and lack the motivation to earn money. By being in a position where I have certain responsibilities to take care of each month now I have the extra push to make sure I succeed. Having a brand new car also gives you the motivation of what else is in store for you if you keep up the good work and stay on track of your game.

I have been doing a lot of reading lately and doing a lot of self improvement. The reason I am doing this is because I am in the business of helping people and families so it’s very important that my mindset is in the right place and that I know where I am going in life. Seeing the negatives of people’s lives can sometimes bring you down but by me being enthusiastic towards people and giving them positive vibes their situation doesn’t always feel so bad. It’s uplifting to me when I read and learn about myself, but it’s even more uplifting when I am able to help a family set up a solid foundation for their families.

Some great books that I would highly recommend are:

The Secret- Rhonda Byrne
Becoming A Better You- Joel Osteen
Smart Women Finish Rich- David Bach
How to Make Friends, and Influence People- Dale Carnegie

Promotion

I am so happy to say that this past weekend I got my first promotion and a 10% raise in my pay! How great is that considering that I only started working there in August? Every couple of months we have seminars that are held at beautiful hotels and we have speakers, awards and celebrations. This time it was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Mahwah, in a huge room where there were about 300-400 people. Everyone that got a promotion or was the best at something got to walk across the stage and get their promotion or award. I got to walk on stage twice. Once was for the newly licensed people and the second time was to get my promotion. It was very exciting and rewarding.

I can’t wait until the convention in June. Our convention is being held at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia. We try to get everyone from our team to go because we are all very close and its fun. We get a nice hotel room, flight and seminars all day that educate us more about the company, where it is going and how to improve our business’s. We still have to figure out who’s going to be rooming with who and who is leaving when. I will definitely bring pictures to show.

Yesterday I was talking to Travis, the new SGA Vice-President and my ex-secretary and he made me very happy. I was happy because he told me that Berkeley got a shuttle to the grocery store for the dorming students! When I was president we had an issue where students during the weekend had trouble getting food because the cafeteria was not open on the weekends. Students could not get food at the cafeteria and if they could not drive then they could not go to the grocery store. Now they are able to go food shopping and the shuttle will take them there! That is just great.

I have been planning on going to their meeting or an event for the longest time but every time I do, something comes up and I’m unable to make it. It drives me crazy. I can’t wait until the spring and all the spring activities start happening. I remember last year we were planting flowers, decorating the student center and much more. I miss the days of being involved with everything.
